Pre-AP Algebra 1 Revisions for 2026-27
Pre-AP Algebra 1 will be revised for the 2026-27 school year. These updates will strengthen connections to AP mathematics courses and better align the content to typical Algebra 1 standards and curricula.
Please note: These revisions do not affect the 2025-26 school year.
Course Framework Revisions
- Revised unit content and order.
- Consolidated Units 1 and 2 into a single unit.
- Added a new Unit 4 with additional topics on functions, their graphs, and how to determine the best model given a situation or data; this unit also serves as a bridge to Unit 1 of Pre-AP Algebra 2.
- Streamlined key concepts, learning objectives, and essential knowledge statements.
Course Resources Revisions
- New model lessons aligned to grade-level Algebra 1 standards.
- Refreshed contexts and situations to strengthen real-world modeling.
- Enhanced feature boxes to provide more support for teachers and students.
- AP connections included in all performance tasks.
- Updated design features to align with Pre-AP Algebra 2 and Pre-AP Geometry with Statistics.
- New, optional project based learning resources for each unit coming in 2027.

Pre-AP Algebra 1 Course Audit
Since Pre-AP Algebra 1 is revised for the 2026-27 school year, all new and returning teachers will need to complete the Pre-AP Course Audit, which opens March 1, 2026. Before starting the audit, learn how the process will be different this year.

Attend a Virtual Pre-AP Algebra 1 Summer Institute for Free
College Board awards grants for qualifying teachers to attend a virtual Pre-AP Summer Institute (Pre-APSI). The grant request form is open March–June or until all grants have been distributed.
To qualify, you must:
- be teaching Pre-AP Algebra 1 in the 2026-27 school year
- not receive professional learning funding from your school, district, or state
Participant grants only cover tuition for virtual Pre-APSIs. They don’t cover other workshops or the AP Annual Conference. Fill out the interest form to be notified when the grant request form opens.
