Pre-AP Algebra 1 Revisions for 2026-2027
Pre-AP Algebra 1 will be revised for the 2026-27 school year. These updates will strengthen connections to AP mathematics courses and better align the content to typical Algebra 1 standards and curricula.
Please note: These revisions do not affect the 2025-26 school year.
Course Framework Revisions
- Revised unit contents and order.
- Consolidated Units 1 and 2 into a single unit.
- Added a new Unit 4 with additional topics on functions, their graphs, and how to determine the best model given a situation or data; this unit also serves as a bridge to Unit 1 of Pre-AP Algebra 2.
- Streamlined key concepts, learning objectives, and essential knowledge statements.
Course Resources Revisions
- New model lessons aligned to grade-level Algebra 1 standards.
- Refreshed contexts and situations to strengthen real-world modeling.
- Enhanced feature boxes to provide more support for teachers and students.
- AP connections included in all performance tasks.
- Updated design features to align with Pre-AP Algebra 2 and Pre-AP Geometry with Statistics.
- New, optional project based learning resources for each unit.
Pre-AP Algebra Course Audit
The Pre-AP Course Audit is designed to help teachers understand the essential components of their course. However, some teachers have shared that the process can feel more like an administrative task than a meaningful learning experience.
To address this feedback, we will test alternate Pre-AP Course Audit pathways for the revised Pre-AP Algebra 1 course, to determine if teachers gain a deeper understanding of the course.
First-time and returning Pre-AP Algebra 1 teachers can log in to the Pre-AP Course Audit platform on or after March 1, 2026, for details about how to complete their assigned pathway. The deadline to complete the Pre-AP Course Audit is January 31, 2027.
Throughout 2026, we’ll share more information about these revisions and upcoming professional learning opportunities so teachers have everything needed to plan for next school year.
