The summer before their first year teaching a Pre-AP course, educators are required to take part in professional learning offered by College Board. As the Pre-AP coordinator, you’re responsible for distributing the registration codes to teachers and leaders for registration.
New Leader Professional Learning
The summer before their first year teaching a Pre-AP course, teachers and at least one leader are required to take part in professional learning offered by College Board. There are two options to meet the professional learning requirement: the in-person Pre-AP Summer Institute and the on-demand Pre-AP Online Foundational Module Series. Both options provide continuing education units to teachers and leaders who complete the training.
Pre-AP educators completing the online modules will also have the option to join a New Teacher or Leader Virtual Cohort. These live, virtual classes provide an opportunity for teachers and leaders to plan and collaborate with Pre-AP National Faculty and peers.
Online Foundational Module Series
The Online Foundational Module Series is available, at no charge, on Pre-AP Classroom to all Pre-AP teachers and leaders.
The course-specific teacher modules can be completed in 12−20 hoursand support teachers in planning and preparing for their Pre-AP course. The leader-specific modules can be completed in 4–6 hours and support leaders in understanding the instructional design and program requirements of Pre-AP.

Pre-AP Summer Institutes
Due to covid-19, College Board is not scheduling in-person professional learning at this time. All 2021 Pre-AP professional learning will be virtual and Pre-AP Summer Institutes will not be held in summer 2021.
Pre-AP educators can attend an official Pre-AP Summer Institute. Pathways are available for new Pre-AP teachers as well as leaders. This four-day collaborative experience empowers participants to prepare for their Pre-AP course. Educators explore course materials, plan for their course, and develop connections within the Pre-AP Community.
Pre-AP Summer Institutes will be available in summer 2022 for new teachers of the following courses:
- Pre-AP English 1
- Pre-AP English 2
- Pre-AP Algebra 1
- Pre-AP Geometry
- Pre-AP Biology

- Pre-AP World History and Geography
- Pre-AP Visual and Performing Arts (includes Dance, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts)

Pre-AP Summer Institutes Calendar and Registration
The Pre-AP Summer Institutes calendar will be made public in spring 2022, when registration is open.
You will receive more information about registration for in-person professional learning in preparation for the 2022-23 academic year. The deadline to register for a Pre-AP Summer Institute is four weeks before the event start date. Attendance is limited to schools that have purchased Pre-AP courses from College Board.
Pre-AP Webinar Series
Teachers of English 2, Chemistry, and Geometry with Statistics are invited to attend our free Unit 3 Webinars which analyze sample student responses to the Unit 3 practice performance task. Attending this webinar will fulfill the program requirement to complete one professional learning scoring module.
Over the summer, we hosted a series of free webinars that provide relevant strategies, share best practices, and illustrate partner programs like Quill and Wordplay, in order to support educators during the 2020-21 academic year in light of the current environment. These virtual sessions present learning opportunities for all educators, whether they are new to Pre-AP or experienced Pre-AP teachers and leaders looking to enhance their instructional approach. Webinars were hosted live by College Board staff, along with Pre-AP teachers and administrators, from mid-June through the end of September. All sessions have been recorded and posted on Pre-AP Classroom under the Professional Learning tab within each course.
